a real example: the station we thought homadic missed

while testing v2 in baton rouge, we tried to get homadic to surface a station about a quarter mile away. it didn't make the top results. for a second, that looked like a problem.

then we drove past it. regular was roughly $3.80 per gallon. homadic's top result was showing $3.17. for a 16-gallon fill, that difference was around ten dollars before much of a detour could even matter.

a gas station is more than gas

the pump price is only part of why somebody chooses a stop. a station can also mean a bathroom, air for a tire, food, coffee, a safe well-lit place at night, room for a truck or rv, or somewhere to stop with a kid or a dog. these are tiny facts until you need one of them — then they're the entire reason you picked the station.

v2's contribution system is built around those kinds of factual details, not another paragraph asking whether the cashier was friendly.

proof of price

gasbuddy documents a community reporting workflow where users can manually type or confirm a station price. upside verifies transactions so it knows a qualifying purchase occurred. homadic's verification target is different — we care about the real-world observation itself.

a verified gas contribution begins with a live in-app capture. homadic detects the pump display or price sign, reads the price, lets the user correct OCR when necessary, captures fresh location and supporting evidence, binds the observation to the station and device, and sends it to the server for another round of validation before settlement.

that doesn't make homadic omniscient, and we don't call it perfect physical truth. it makes the contribution substantially harder to fake than typing "$3.19" into a box.

review credits

useful contributions deserve more than a disappearing submit button. an accepted verified gas visit currently earns review credits, with additional credits for accepted factual station details — a working air compressor, a clean bathroom, working lighting. invalid or duplicate contributions earn nothing.

the distinction matters: the review isn't trusted because it received credits. the credits exist because the review passed verification and settled. review credits are currently non-transferable, have no cash value, and are not cryptocurrency — they're an auditable way to say you did useful work for the network.

ranks, routes & reviews

v2 also begins the foundation for a deeper homadic idea. ranks describe what homadic recommended and why. routes record when a recommendation became navigation intent. reviews add verified real-world observations.

the architecture is intentionally bounded. homadic doesn't need a continuous history of everywhere someone drives to learn whether its recommendations are useful. route intent can mean nothing more invasive than: homadic showed this option, and this option was selected for navigation. the purpose is better decisions, not surveillance.

so which gas app should you use?
